Carolina Beach sits at the northern end of Pleasure Island in New Hanover County, a narrow strip of land between the Atlantic and the Cape Fear River. There is only one bridge onto the island, US 421 over Snow’s Cut, so every move truck takes the same road in and out. It is a short drive south of Wilmington, but a summer Saturday can make it feel much longer. Summer is the hard part. Rental changeover days, boardwalk crowds and beach traffic on Lake Park Boulevard can slow a move down, so we often plan early morning starts. Freeman Park at the north end and the boardwalk draw big crowds on warm weekends. The town sells parking passes, so tell us if your street needs one. From June through November we also watch hurricane season, and there is never a fee to reschedule if a storm is headed our way.

The median age in Carolina Beach is about 53, so downsizing and second-home moves are common here.
