Valrico sits just east of Brandon along State Road 60, about 14 miles from downtown Tampa. It is not a city. It is an unincorporated community run by Hillsborough County, and its name means “rich valley” in Spanish. Valrico covers about 14 square miles, so a move here can mean anything from a short trip across Bell Shoals Road to a longer drive toward Plant City.
The old part of Valrico grew up around the railroad in the 1890s, near Miller Road and Front Street, and you can still find older homes on bigger lots there. Most of today’s Valrico is newer. Subdivisions line Lithia Pinecrest Road, Bell Shoals Road and Bloomingdale Avenue, and River Hills is a gated golf community in the south part of town. Many homes are single-family houses with two-car garages, and plenty of backyards have lanais and pool cages full of patio furniture.
Gated and HOA neighborhoods are common here, so we ask for gate codes, move-hour rules and where the truck can park well before moving day. SR 60 and Lithia Pinecrest Road get crowded during school drop-off and rush hour, so we plan start times around that. In summer we start early to beat the heat and the afternoon thunderstorms that show up most days. Some communities also limit how long a truck can sit in the street or ask that movers check in at the gate, and we follow those rules.
Valrico homes tend to be roomy, and a two-story house with a full garage takes real planning.
