Ruskin, FL Movers

Ruskin is an unincorporated community on the South Shore of Hillsborough County, about 24 miles south of Tampa on the north bank of the Little Manatee River. Our Tampa crew runs down US 41 and I-75 to Ruskin often. The town was founded in 1908 and named for English writer John Ruskin, and it later became known for growing tomatoes. The Ruskin Tomato and Heritage Festival still celebrates that farm history every spring.

Ruskin has a mix of homes. Near US 41 and Shell Point Road you will find older single-story houses on bigger lots. Along the Little Manatee River and out toward Tampa Bay there are waterfront homes and condos, including the Little Harbor area on Tampa Bay. East of US 41, toward College Avenue (State Road 674) and I-75, newer subdivisions like Cypress Creek often have HOA rules on parking, move hours and portable storage containers. Some of these newer homes are two stories, so we plan for stairs and big pieces like sectionals and bunk beds.

Being close to the water means some extra planning. Some homes near the bay and the river are raised, which can mean more stairs, and summer storms roll in most afternoons from June through September. We start early, pad every doorway and wrap furniture before it goes out to the truck. If you are moving into a condo, we will check with your building about elevator use and loading spots. Our storage can also hold your things if your move-in date slips.

Life in Ruskin is laid back. E.G. Simmons Conservation Park has a beach on Tampa Bay, a boat ramp and campsites, and Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve is a favorite for kayaking. The Ruskin Family Drive-In on US 41 still shows double features, and the SouthShore Regional Library is a busy spot for families. Traffic on US 41, State Road 674 and I-75 can back up at rush hour, so we plan our route and start times around it. Hillsborough Community College has its SouthShore campus here too, so we also help students and staff with smaller moves.
