Know your collection zone
GFL Environmental collects Oak Island trash by zone: Monday in zones west of 29th Street, Tuesday in zones farther east, and Wednesday and Saturday in summer along Beach, Dolphin and Pelican Drive. Put carts out no earlier than the afternoon before pickup.
No curbside bulk pickup
The town does not collect bulk items at the curb. The town convenience site at 4110 Airport Road has limited hours and requires proof of residency, or you can use Brunswick County’s convenience center at 8392 River Road SE in Southport.
Plan for paid parking
Paid parking is enforced 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from April 1 through September 30, and in-season street parking in the paid zone is only allowed at marked bumpers. Tell us about parking at your address before move day.
Watch bridge closures
The island’s two bridges, the G.V. Barbee Sr. Bridge (NC 133) and Swain’s Cut Bridge (NC 906), typically close when sustained winds reach 40 mph. Oak Island doesn’t use decals for storm re-entry, so keep ID and homeowner documents handy.
