Best Davis Islands, FL Moving Company
Davis Islands is a South Tampa neighborhood in the City of Tampa, built in the 1920s by developer D.P. Davis on land dredged from Hillsborough Bay. It sits just south of downtown, with Tampa General Hospital at the north tip and Peter O. Knight Airport at the south end. Our Tampa moving crew knows the island well, from the shops on East Davis Boulevard to the quiet streets along the seawall.
Every truck comes and goes over the bridge at the north end of the island, next to the hospital. That bridge and the hospital traffic around it can back up at shift changes and during rush hour, so we plan our arrival and departure times with care. On the island, streets are narrow and lined with parked cars, and some homes have short driveways, so we scout parking ahead of time and bring the right size truck. If a large truck will not fit, we can shuttle with a smaller one so your move stays safe and on schedule.
Homes here range from original 1920s Mediterranean-style houses and apartment buildings to large newer homes and condos. Many newer and rebuilt homes are raised high off the ground for flood protection, which means tall front stairs, and condo buildings often want elevator reservations and proof of insurance before move day. Our packing and unpacking team protects artwork, mirrors, and heirloom furniture that come with older homes. We also pad stair rails and door frames so a raised home or an old plaster wall does not get marked up.
Davis Islands is low-lying, and recent hurricanes brought storm surge onto parts of the island. If you are moving out for repairs or a rebuild, we can pack what you need and move the rest. Life here is hard to beat: the Davis Island Dog Beach, the Marjorie Park Yacht Basin, Roy Jenkins Pool, and a short walk or bike ride to downtown and Bayshore Boulevard. We also keep an eye on summer afternoon storms and start early when we can. During hurricane season, we stay flexible and will move your date if a storm is headed toward Tampa Bay.
We also move families in nearby Harbour Island, Hyde Park, and downtown Tampa. Family-owned since 2015, A & M Friendly Movers treats every Davis Islands move like we are moving our own neighbors. Our mission is simple: quality, professional service at a fair price. Home is where the heart is, and moving is where it starts. Call 813-544-0048 for a free quote.

“Excellent experience! We have moved 11 times and once overseas and A&M is in the top two moves! They communicate well and there are no curveballs. Chris, Zack & “Ox” were hard working, courteous and professional. They moved us quickly and took great care with our property. When initially speaking with Matt, he realized I was a Veteran and he immediately offered a Veteran’s discount. I would highly recommend A&M Friendly Movers because they live their name!”

Moving in Davis Islands: Local Tips From Our Crew
Parking, trash pickup, traffic and building rules can make or break moving day in Davis Islands. Here’s what we plan around.
Book city bulky pickup
Davis Islands is inside Tampa city limits, so the City, not the County, collects furniture, mattresses and appliances. Call the Utilities Call Center at (813) 274-8811 to request special services.
Check your evacuation zone
Hillsborough County’s 2026 evacuation map places much of Davis Islands in Zone A. Confirm your exact address with the County’s lookup tool before hurricane season.
Plan around Gasparilla
Each January the Gasparilla Pirate Flotilla sails up the channel directly alongside Peter O. Knight Airport. Avoid scheduling your move that day.
Protect historic interiors
Many 1920s Mediterranean Revival buildings on the islands carry national historic designation. Point out plaster, tile or original floors so we can protect them.
Check bulky-pickup eligibility
The City’s bulky-item service is reserved for single-family homes and multi-unit properties of four units or fewer, so Davis Islands condo and apartment residents should ask building management how large items are handled. Eligible homes call (813) 274-8811.
What Shapes Your Davis Islands Move Cost
No surprises. Here is exactly what goes into your quote, so you can plan with confidence.
Home Size
How many rooms and how much furniture. A condo and a four-bedroom house are very different jobs.
Distance
Across town, across Hillsborough County, or out of state. Local moves are hourly; long-distance moves are priced upfront.
Access
All trucks use the single bridge by Tampa General Hospital, and narrow streets, raised homes with tall stairs, and condo elevator reservations can affect move time.
Add-Ons
Packing, storage, furniture assembly, and heavy items like pianos and safes.
