How Much Do Movers Cost in Myrtle Beach, SC?

How local moves are priced in Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest, Market Common and the Grand Strand, what South Carolina rules say about your bill, and how to save.

The Short Answer

A Myrtle Beach move can be an oceanfront condo tower with a shared elevator or a new home in a gated Carolina Forest neighborhood. The price comes down to the same thing every time: how many hours your crew works.

Almost every local move is priced the same simple way:

Your crew’s hourly rate × the hours your move takes = your cost

Your hourly rate depends on how many movers you need and where you’re moving, and we give it to you in writing with your free quote. With A & M Friendly Movers, the clock starts when our crew arrives at your home (never when we leave the office) and stops when your furniture is reassembled at the new place. We bill in 15-minute increments with a 3-hour minimum. See how our pricing works.

How Many Hours Will My Move Take?

Time is the biggest part of your cost. These are typical ranges for a local move, including loading, the drive between homes, unloading, and taking apart and putting back together your furniture.

What Drives the Cost of a Myrtle Beach Move

What adds time (or saves it) on moves across the Grand Strand.

Oceanfront condo towers

Most towers have one or two shared elevators, set move hours and a certificate of insurance requirement. Ask your front desk or property manager to reserve the elevator and a loading spot before moving day. We send the COI free.

Gated & HOA communities

Carolina Forest, Market Common and Barefoot Resort neighborhoods often have gate codes, truck-parking limits and move-hour rules. Send us your HOA rules ahead of time and we plan the day around them.

Summer and event traffic

Kings Highway, US 17, US 501, SC 31 and Hwy 544 fill up in beach season. On Memorial Day weekend the city makes Ocean Boulevard one-way southbound south of 29th Avenue North (see the WMBF report). Weekday and early starts keep your hours down.

College move weeks

Coastal Carolina University has a move-in weekend each August, and Horry-Georgetown Technical College students have a move-in day of their own (see the CCU move-in page). Those weeks fill up fast in Conway and nearby, so book early.

Seasonal rentals & snowbird moves

Many rentals turn over in a short window, and part-time residents often move in or out on a fixed date. Share your key dates when you book so we can hold a crew for you.

Hurricane season

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Horry County uses evacuation Zones A, B and C, so know your zone (see Horry County Know Your Zone). Pick a backup date and reschedule with us free if a storm is coming.

Local vs. Long-Distance Pricing

Local moves are billed by the hour. Long-distance moves are not. For a long-distance move we give you a binding estimate: one flat price that will not change after you book. You get your own truck, the same crew from door to door, and a guaranteed delivery date.

What South Carolina Rules Say About Your Bill

  • Movers need a state certificate. The SC Office of Regulatory Staff (ORS) oversees licensing, insurance and rates for household goods movers, and each mover’s rates are approved by the Public Service Commission.
  • Verify the number. Ask for the mover’s certificate number and check it with ORS Consumer Services at (803) 737-5230.
  • Check the valuation box. The bill of lading should show the protection you chose. Ask to see it before you sign. See our coverage options.

Ways to Lower Your Moving Cost

Pack before we arrive

Boxes packed, taped and labeled by room make the biggest difference in your hours.

Reserve parking and elevators

A short walk from door to truck saves real time. Reserve the elevator if your building has one.

Empty heavy drawers

Take out anything heavy or breakable so dressers move quickly and safely.

Pick the right crew size

A bigger crew often finishes faster, which can make the total about the same or lower.

Ask about discounts

5% off for military families, and referred customers save $100 on a local move.

Book early

Weekends and the end of the month fill up first. Early booking gets you the best date and start time.

Red Flags to Watch For

South Carolina regulators suggest watching for these.

No certificate number

A mover that will not give you a certificate number may not be licensed or properly insured. Check it with ORS before you book.

Skipped valuation box

The bill of lading should show the protection you chose. If that box is blank, ask about it before you sign.

Blank forms

Do not sign blank forms. Make sure every service and charge is on the paperwork.

No walk-through

SC regulators recommend a mover look at your home and belongings before quoting.
