Moving to Towson: Tips From Our Crew
- Avoid the Beltway at rush hour. I-695 and I-83 back up at commuter times. A mid-morning start usually gets the truck in and out faster, especially if you are coming from Pennsylvania on I-83.
- Watch the university calendar. Move-in and move-out weeks at Towson University and Goucher fill streets, parking and apartment elevators around campus and downtown. If you can, schedule around them.
- Reserve elevators and loading docks. Many downtown apartment and condo buildings require you to reserve a freight elevator or loading area, and some ask for a certificate of insurance from your mover. Ask your building manager early, and we will send what they need.
- Plan for rowhouse stairs. Older rowhouses, like many in Rodgers Forge, often have narrow stairs and tight turns. Measure large pieces in advance so we can disassemble or plan another route.
- Check parking rules on your street. Parking can be tight near the university and downtown. Check posted signs and ask Baltimore County what is needed to park a moving truck on your block.
- Moving from Pennsylvania counts as an interstate move. A move from York, Harrisburg or Hershey into Towson crosses state lines. Make sure your mover is registered with USDOT for interstate work.
- Keep a winter backup day. Snow is possible from late November through March. For a February move especially, pick a backup date.
